From Dr. Jim Wilder: Previously the clinic would need to hospitalize a large percentage

of these patients during their treatment. Once the clinic started focusing on building

patients’ joy before treating their trauma, hospitalization rates plummeted to almost

zero. Joy does not remove our pain but gives us the strength to endure. Joy is relational

so “joy in suffering” means that God and our community are glad to be with us in our

distress.

Our brain needs fuel to run properly. The fuel that our brains were intended to run on is

joy. We can reset our default emotional state to joy. Gratitude is the on-ramp for raising

joy in our lives.

While healing may be a part of the path to wholeness, what [people] really need is

maturity. Their community must help walk through [someone’s] missing maturity skills

and show him a new way to live. All the healing in the world will not make a person

mature.

Before Week 1, each participant will need to purchase

The Other Half of Church by Dr. Jim Wilder and Michel Hendricks.

It will be our guide of sorts. We will use additional resources and materials.
